It is Clinton Ford’s lot to be chiefly remembered for one song, which spent a solitary week at #27 on the UK chart in 1959, the only occasion that Old Shep has featured on the singles listings. Yet Clinton had other hits, scoring a Top Thirty hit with his another update, this time with George Formby’s Fanlight Fanny. This was the lead single from Clinton’s eponymous album released in 1962, with accompaniment from the George Chisholm All Stars and was issued at a time when Clinton was considered one of the top performers of the age. He was a regular on numerous radio shows (too regular, as it turned out, with one producer complaining that Clinton seemed to be on every show, which led to a brief cut back on his appearances) and his live shows were well attended, resulting in the album also becoming a success, hitting the Top Twenty.
