On 6 February 1962 and late at night, Petula Clark went into Olympic Studio in Barnes in London for the first of three successive night’s recording sessions. It had been a while since her last album, and even longer since she had been a fixture on the British charts, concentrating on her developing French success. Those dates in London, however, found her stretching herself even further musically as she recorded an album of jazz standards. To say it was a surprise is an understatement, yet Petula had grown up listening to jazz and, as the resulting album more than amply showed, had learned well. As diverse as anything she had recorded previously, In Other Words is a delight from start to finish. The undoubted highlights are the title track (perhaps better known by its full title of Fly Me To The Moon), The Night Has A Thousand Eyes and There's Nothing More To Say, the latter written by her longtime musical collaborator Joe Henderson.
