American drummer Sandy Nelson was one of the first drummers to achieve almost superstar status, thanks to a succession of hits under his own name and his work as a session musician for scores of others. His own albums did much to gain recognition for drummers in general, with Let There Be Drums being his most successful, hitting the Top Ten of the US chart.
