A 1962 film starring John Wayne, Hatari! portrayed a group of professional animal catchers in Africa working for zoos. Directed by Howard Hawks, the film's score was by Henry Mancini, the Academy Award winning composer who notched up a considerable number of successes during 1962, with his work on Harari! also introducing his popular and memorable tune Baby Elephant Walk. Whilst Hatari! is an often overlooked recording from his songbook, the title track did manage to make it onto the chart (albeit at a lowly #95), and the rest of the soundtrack is a perfect example of the master craftsman at work.
