Andy William may have left Cadence for Columbia in 1961, but his heightened success at his new label home did not go unnoticed by Archie Bleyer, the head of Cadence. With each Columbia success, be it on the single or album charts or his new network television series, Bleyer ensured there was sufficient Cadence material out on the market to meet the expected demand. When Moon River exploded on the charts for Columbia, Cadence quickly assembled a career retrospective in Andy Williams’ Best, and when that proved successful, delved back into his catalogue for another collection of oldies. This time around the theme was million selling songs that Andy had recorded between 1956 and 1961, although the majority of these had been million sellers for other artists. The one exception was Butterfly, which although never certified as a million seller was claimed to have sold more than double that figure. Whilst Million Seller Songs never quite matched the success of Andy’s new Columbia album, it did spend more than nine months on the album chart and gave rise to a minor hit single in Twilight Time.
