One of the three acknowledged Kings of Blues Guitar alongside BB King and Albert King, Freddy King proved to be the inspiration for many a musician, including the likes of Eric Clapton. Yet his career stuttered and stumbled at first, unable to get beyond the audition stage at Chess Records as they felt he was too similar to BB King to become a success! Fortunately Freddy persevered and persisted, eventually landing a deal with King Records and launching a career that saw him enjoy success as both a performer and a singer and become an influential artist across several musical genres. His later tours with the likes of Eric Clapton and Grand Funk Railroad exposed his music to a whole new generation and ensured his lasting relevance. This album, originally released in 1961, highlights his more humble beginnings.
