A reissue of an album released in 1995, which in itself was a reissue of an album released ten years previously under the title Encore, If You Leave Me Now had been an in-demand item right since it initially appeared. The original release noted ‘Vivacious songstress Marti Webb stunningly interprets an eclectic collection of powerful pop songs including Bowie’s Life On Mars, Eric Carmen’s Rachmaninov-inspired All By Myself and the 80s standard The Wind Beneath My Wings. Recognised as one of our finest theatre vocalists, Ms Webb’s obvious vocal commitment to this prime pop material demonstrates yet another facet of her enormous talent.’ That talent was primarily forged in musical theatre, with Marti appearing in numerous shows during the 1069s and 70s without ever seemingly landing that big role. All that changed in 1979 when she was personally selected by Andrew Lloyd Webber to replace Elaine Paige in Evita for the West Wend run and was also given a one-woman musical in Tell Me On A Sunday by the same composer. Thereafter came major stardom and the opportunity of spreading her wings, musically speaking, with the recording and release of Encore.
