John Williams has enjoyed three, distinctive phases in his career. The first was as something of a child prodigy who studied at the Royal College of Music and released a highly regarded series of classical albums. The second phase was as a guitarist with the progressive rock group Sky, who topped the UK charts. The third phase saw John return to classical musical which had made his name, and over the years he has become regarded as one of the elder statesmen of the genre. This particular album was originally released in two parts simultaneously in 1958. Whilst the album has invariably been combined and modified over the years, this particular release, along with the forthcoming second volume, restores the album to its original state.
