A Taste Of Honey is one of the most instantly recognisable songs of the 1960s, thanks in large part to the popularity of The Beatles cover version recorded for their debut album Please Please Me. The first hit recording (at least as far as the UK was concerned) was an instrumental version by Acker Bilk, which made the Top 20 in early 1963. Subsequent versions would be recorded by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass and Tony Bennett, thus ensuring the song’s continued popularity. What is largely overlooked is the origin of the song. It was written by Bobby Scott as part of the soundtrack to a Broadway play, which itself was based on a British play first performed in 1958. Bobby’s score for the play proved immensely successful, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. This release features the entire score, resplendent with magical melodies throughout.
