An extremely innovative singer, Porter Wagoner is chiefly remembered for discovering Dolly Parton and giving her a break on his long time television series, having earlier showcased Norma Jean. Dolly would go on to eclipse Porter’s own popularity, but she never forgot how influential Porter had been in helping her career. This particular album, which predates Dolly’s time with Porter, was originally released in 1962 as his third album for RCA. It contains his country chart topping single Misery Loves Company and an earlier hit in I Thought I Heard You Calling My Name. An excellent album from start to finish, A Slice Of Life has long been sought after as a standalone release.
