Although he has made his reputation as a producer and arranger for the likes of Lou Rawls, Frank Sinatra, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Little Richard and, more recently Puff Daddy, there was a time when H.B. Barnum was making waves as a performer. He cut two highly regarded albums during the early 1960s, even though the only hit he ever enjoyed was an instrumental! On the evidence of this particular album (the second of the two albums) he could have forged out a highly successful career as a performer had he not decided to work on the other side of the glass – this is a delight from start to finish.
