If this were a Thelonius Monk album it would be worth picking up. Likewise, if it were a John Coltrane album, it would be especially worth picking up. Combine the two and you have an album that should be in collections of just about any and every music lover. Recorded over the course of three sessions, conducted in April, June and July 1957, the album was then held back for four years, finally appearing after John had made a major breakthrough as a band leader and jazz star in his own right. Not surprisingly the album made a considerable stir when it was finally issued, enhancing the already considerable reputations of both musicians.
